DLVSC Names Famous Couch Ralph Perez As Its Technical Director

Redlands University Coach Ralph Perez has been name as the Technical Director for Downtown Las Vegas Soccer Club.

Ralph played four years for State University of New York – Oneonta men’s soccer program. Including the 1972 team that played for the NCAA Division II Championship. In 2018 Ralph was inducted into the Oneonta Hall of Fame.

In 1978, Ralph worked as U.S. National Staff Coach, helping the U.S. Team qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 40 years. He led the 1989 Under 20 World Cup team to a fourth-place finish, On of th ebest results in US history. In 1996, Ralph moved to the MLS where he worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy and then the New York-New Jersey Metrostars of Major League Soccer, prior to serving as the Director of Coaching and Youth Development from 2003-2005.

Ralph began his collegiate coaching career at Division III Whittier College in 1974, Ralph had stints at Division I Old Dominion University (VA), Santa Clara University and Cal State Fullerton, along with stops at Division II Cal State San Bernardino where he created the woman’s program and Cal State Los Angeles. He is currently the head coach at Redlands University where he has been since 2006 and has had 7 NCAA championship appearances.

During his tenure at ODU, Ralph led the Monarchs to their first Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 1991 garnering South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year honors. At Santa Clara, Ralph was named Far West Coach of the Year in 1983. In 2007 and 2016, Ralph guided Redlands to an Elite 8 finish in 2007 and 2016, and 2021 a Sweet-16 finish. This three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Region Coach of the Year (2011, 2015, and 2016) has coached six SCIAC Players of the Year.

In 2012, Perez received the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Fund Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Award is given annually to recognize and give thanks for a person’s lifetime of dedication to preserving the spirit of the game of soccer, advancing its level of play and promoting its growth and development among youth and adults nationwide.
